The Sound of the Metaverse
A conference about audio for VR
As specialists in immersive audio and 3D sound technologies, my partner at Sound Object Thomas Aussenac and I are frequently invited to share our expertise through conferences and workshops. One of our most popular presentations is titled *“The Sound of the Metaverse”*, which delves into the fascinating world of audio in virtual and augmented realities. This conference can be tailored to various formats and durations, depending on the audience and setting.
For example, during the LEV Matadero digital art festival in Madrid, we conducted an in-depth 4-hour training session. This allowed us to fully explore 3D audio techniques and provide live demonstrations of our latest virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) projects. We’ve also had the privilege of presenting this lecture to Master’s students in *Design for Virtual Reality* at the prestigious IED Barcelona school.
In *"The Sound of the Metaverse"*, we cover a range of topics essential to understanding immersive audio in virtual reality. These include Ambisonic sound capture, mixing for Dolby Atmos, and the use of middleware such as Wwise and FMOD. We also dive into sound integration in video game engines like Unity and Unreal, highlighting how audio can transform digital experiences into fully immersive environments.
This conference is an opportunity for us to share our passion for sound and its pivotal role in shaping the future of the Metaverse. Whether at a digital arts festival or in an academic setting, our goal is to inspire others to explore the limitless possibilities of 3D sound in virtual worlds.
