LesMills Body Combat

Sound design for a VR video game

We were thrilled when Odders Lab, a forward-thinking VR studio, reached out to us to create the sound design for their exciting upcoming video game. Commissioned by Les Mills, one of the world’s leading fitness companies, this game allows users to experience an intense bodycombat workout from the comfort of their home using an Meta’s Oculus headset, all while being fully immersed in a futuristic environment.

Our main challenge with Thomas Aussenac (Sound Object) in this project was to design a highly realistic audio experience that provided immediate feedback to the player. The sound design needed to enhance the immersion and physicality of the workout while keeping players engaged and motivated throughout their session.

When designing sound for virtual reality, it’s crucial to consider the unique sonic characteristics of the headset. For this project, we worked with the Oculus Quest 2, Meta’s latest-generation VR headset. We ensured that every sound was optimized for the headset's audio environment, creating a seamless and immersive experience.

Since music plays a vital role in the overall gameplay, we had to strike the perfect balance between impactful sound effects and an energetic soundtrack. Our goal was to ensure that every punch, kick, and movement sound effect cut through the music, keeping players fully engaged and motivated as they pushed through their bodycombat routines.

This project was an exciting opportunity to combine our expertise in sound design with fitness and virtual reality, demonstrating how powerful audio can elevate a workout and make the experience both challenging and immersive.
